I Was Caught in a Tornado Zone with My Cybertruck — The Storm Was Brutal, But My Truck Didn’t Let Me Down

A Cybertruck owner from Cincinnati, Ohio, just shared a wild story that’s turning heads in the Tesla community. Joseph, a professional big rig driver, took his Cybertruck on a road trip to Indiana to buy some new rims—but he didn’t expect to drive straight into tornado territory.

While returning home, Joseph and his wife found themselves in the middle of a severe weather zone, with wind speeds reaching over 70 mph, heavy rainfall, and confirmed tornadoes touching down within just 20 miles of their route.

Sounds terrifying, right? But Joseph says his Cybertruck handled it like a champ.

“It Drove Like a Dream”

Despite the intense conditions, Joseph praised the Cybertruck for its rock-solid performance on the road. Here’s what he said in a post on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum:

“We could see the blowing rain and trees shaking, but we couldn’t feel it on the steering wheel or inside the car.

The Cybertruck stayed in Full Self-Driving about 60% of the time. When the rain got really bad, it disengaged, but it kicked back in when things calmed down a bit.

I’ve driven big rigs most of my life, and I’ve never been through a storm this bad. But man, oh man, it was beautiful in the Cybertruck.”

Joseph said they took a longer route to avoid the worst of the weather and kept their speed well below the limit. But even with the challenges, he described the Cybertruck as stable, heavy, and confidence-inspiring.

Fellow Owners Chime In

Other Cybertruck fans were quick to jump in with praise. One user joked that if a tornado ever hit their town, “the first place I’m going is the back floor of my Cybertruck!”

Another commented, “It’s rated for class 4 hail! This thing is built like a tank.”

Tesla claims the Cybertruck’s glass roof is also designed to handle class 4 hail—but some users have reported spontaneous cracks after sun exposure, so it’s not without its quirks.

Still, stories like Joseph’s are exactly what Tesla fans love to hear: real-world, high-stress situations where the Cybertruck doesn’t just survive—it shines.
