Tesla sold way more electric cars in the U.S. last year than other companies. In fact, they sold more than three times the number of electric cars sold by the next two biggest sellers combined.

New data from Cox Automotive shows that Tesla sold 633,762 cars in the U.S. in 2024. Although this was a slight dip in sales compared to 2023, Tesla still sold many more electric cars than anyone else.

General Motors (GM) came in second, selling 112,897 cars, and Ford was third with 97,865 cars sold. Hyundai, Kia, Rivian, and Honda followed behind.

Overall, the electric car market is growing. Sales in the last three months of 2024 were 15.2% higher than the same period the year before. Total electric car sales for the whole year reached a record of over 1.3 million.

Even though Tesla’s sales went down a little (1.1%) from 2023, they still dominated the market, mainly thanks to their popular Model Y and Model 3 cars.

Last year, there were more electric car models available than ever before. Hyundai and Kia sold a lot more cars, and Honda and GM also started selling more electric cars.

Out of 68 different electric car models, 24 sold more than the year before, and 17 of those were brand new models.

However, sales of 27 models went down, and some models, like the Chevy Bolt and Mazda MX-30, were even stopped being made.
